Twenty-Third Sunday After Trinity
Intent: Peace
The readings for today which are drawn from the Revelation of St. John the Divine and the Gospel of Thomas remind us that peace is as much a state of being as it the exterior absence of conflict.
The readings remind us that no matter how much we may want to prevent strife, conflict or war this cannot really be done successfully without winning the inner battle with the lower self-first. As long as there are humans who want to work in a lower world for lower purposes and who are blinded to that peace, which is only found deep within in the presence of the Holy Spirit, we will know wars both spiritual and worldly.
As Christ speaking through the Mater Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas explains: “Whoever has known the world has found a corpse. And whoever has found a corpse of himself in the world is not worthy."
However, there is also much hope since peace is also revealed to be a Holy attribute of the Divine and a logical result of his infinite compassion working within us. All the causes of war shall be put to an end when this universal compassion living inside all of us is finally nourished by the unconquerable Holy Spirit. It is then that we will see the Kingdom of God before our very eyes.
This is the work that we must all accept to do in our own way. The Revelation of St John the Divine:
“He that sitteth on the thone shall dwell among them. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne shall feed and shall lead them unto living fountains of water; and God shall wipe all tears from their eyes.”
Therefore, let us as One United Gnostic Community and One Holy Universal Gnostic Church, pray that this Divine Peace shall come to dwell within all of us; until the earth is filled so much with the Gnosis of Divine Love that all human beings will come know in their hearts and minds a lasting and profound peace; and may that peace so overflow into the world that not a single human hand will be lifted in anger toward a Brother or Sister or toward anything in the world. Amen! So mote it be!
