Gnostic Prayer

Prayers from the Gnostic Hierurgy

Sign of the Cross
The sign of the Tau (T) cross is made horizontally from left to right, then downward.

In the name of the most holy Pleroma, Aeon Christ, Aeon Sophia, and Aeon Pneuma-Agion. Amen.

Gloria
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, now, and always, and forever and ever.

Pater Noster

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And let us not succumb to temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Prayer to the Aeons
Hail, Hail, Kingdom of eternal brightness.
Hail, Hail, Pleroma of the Divinity!
O immense sea,
Where matter is set in motion,
Mystery of silence,
Of love and of beauty,

Happy are you Aeons
Immortals of the true life
Oh you emanations
Of the lucid Pleroma
Visions be present here
Shining in your garments of white.
Amen.

Prayer to the Divine Propator
Divine Propator, You whose glory is incomprehensible, look down upon us with compassion, and pour out upon us and on those who pray the abundance of your mercies and tenderness. Amen.

Prayer to the Virgin of Light (Angelic Oration)

Hail, shining white Lily of the gleaming and ever tranquil Pleroma, and ever brilliant Rose of celestial delightfulness, from whom is born and from whose milk is nourished Jesus, the Flower of the Aeons, who willed that our souls be nourished by the showers of thy divinity. Amen.

Gnostic Creed
I believe that all proceeds from a Universal Principle, ineffable without limit and without form, One in its essence and triple in its manifestation: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

I believe that this Principle is the supreme Propator, and that Thought, indissolubly linked to himself engendered the hierarchy of the Holy Aeons, which are his attributes, by which He manifests himself, and which emanated from Him are consubstantial with him.

I believe that the Demiurge is the principle of division and of egotism, and that he produced all the relativities, and therefore is the creator of all forms and of all individual existences, but that the superior principle which is in him and with which he is linked to the Universal Spirit, proceeds directly from the Propator.

I believe that the Aeon Christ, united to the Holy Spirit, manifests himself to us through “Saviors.”

I believe that the goal of the mission of these Saviors is to prepare us for the advent of the Paraclete which is the Holy Spirit and which manifests itself to us as the Virgin of the Light.

I believe that all beings will finally enter into the bosom of the Pleroma, where Harmony, Justice and Grace reign in all the Aeons.

Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving
O Divine Pleroma, may our lips be full of your praises, that we may sing to your glory. Preserve us in your holiness, and may this day be devoted entirely to the meditation of your marvelous blessings. Glory to you, now and always, for ever and ever.

Approach to Prayer

To pray is more than reciting words. To pray requires one to become silent within, to free oneself from negative thoughts, and to put intelligent understanding of the meaning of the prayer in tune with the spirit.

This message from Constant Chevillon (Tau Harmonius), Patriarch of the Gnostic Church from 1936 to 1944, describes the approach to prayer in our tradition:
