Twenty-First Sunday after Trinity
Intent: Perseverance
The readings for today remind us of the necessity of perseverance and of willpower on the path to Gnosis. It is fitting therefore that we focus on Gnostic Chivalry, since the path of the Warrior is the path of willpower. This is exactly what the Templars were, spiritual warriors. It is also what some of us on the Gnostic path are called to be.
Spiritual warriorship is so well defined by the lesson of the day drawn from the letters of St. Paul to the Ephesians: 12-17: "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm."
This is a veritable battle cry for the Gnostic Warrior. A clarion call to defeat the forces of darkness within ourselves and on subtler realms.
We must remember that as Gnostics we are not mere passive helpless observers of the “Wars which are in Heaven”, and that we are actually soldiers in the battles occurring on spiritual realms. We must therefore learn to subdue the evil which is inside us, if we are to progress toward the Light. There is immense hope in this message because there is no doubt that we possess the power to do so.
Is it any wonder that the Gnostic Church has included many Orders of Chivalry attached to it, such as: L'Ordre des Chevaliers Maçons Élus Coëns de l'Univers, Les Chevaliers Bienfaisants de la Cité Sainte of the Rectified Scottish Rite, and that Papus referred to his Martinist Order as a school of Christian Chivalry?
The unfortunate reality in this life is that compassion must at times be ruthless if it is to work. That we are called at times to take the tough road of meeting evil head on. Sometimes the only way to keep evil and negativity from spreading is to submit it by force. But this must be done with Love.
The only true subduing force in the universe is Love.
This can be a daunting and exhausting struggle for the best of us, but the good message is that we are not alone! If you are struggling with evil in your life, know in your heart of hearts, that the Hosts of the Armies of Heaven are there with you and that the Archangels when called upon will share their strength and their courage with you. Your perseverance will be rewarded.
Let us therefore pray as One Gnostic Community and One Universal Gnostic Church, that we may be so fortified by Our Mother the Holy Spirit; and so accompanied by the Armies of Angels that we may defeat all the forces of evil within us and around us; and that by so doing we may ever come closer and closer to that Glorious Divine Light of the Holy Father. Amen.
