The Sixteenth Sunday After Trinity
Intent: Justice
Today’s readings remind us of the origin of justice in the Divine Law of Return. That justice is mainly meted out through the consequences of our actions in our lives here and now. That actions rooted in selfishness and ignorance (symbolically in the “flesh”) will produce negative results and suffering in the world around us.
But the readings for today are also a wonderful reminder that we are not helpless bystanders with regards to justice and its fulfillment here on earth. They remind us that it is possible to be in harmony with the Principle of Divine Justice and the Law of Return provided we look to the Spirit within us for guidance.
This point is so well expressed by Saint-Paul the Apostle to the Galatians when he writes:
“He that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the spirit shall of the spirit reap life everlasting.”
This message is a veritable clarion call for us to question ourselves every minute of the day on what seeds we are sowing and what harvest we are reaping in our lives. We should, as Gnostics, be asking ourselves when we act whether we are acting cleanly with the Spirit in mind. We should also be asking ourselves honestly how much time we are spending sowing the seeds of beauty love and spirituality in the world around us.
Self-reflection and self-consciousness of our actions is truly the first step on our path to return. It is true that this is not an easy path but it is an immensely rewarding one. A path which aligns us and harmonizes us with the Spirit of Eternal Justice.
It is through this effort of working on our lower selves that we “exorcise” from our Higher Selves all evil influences and intentions which cause suffering in our lives and in the lives of others.
Let us therefore pray, as One Gnostic Community, for all those persecuted today under the auspices of worldly justice, and for all those victims of an imperfect human justice system, and of the prejudices of criminality, that they may be strengthened by the courage of the True Spirit of Eternal Justice. And may this Spirit work in us and in all those in positions to be legislators so that the Perfect Justice of the Holy Father may reign here below and in the lives of all men. Amen.
