New Year’s Day
Intent: Renewal of Life

Picture
“The Calling of Saint Matthew” by Giovanni Paolo Panini, 1752.

One day Ieshu found on his way a man named Matthew (Levi, son of Alphaeus) at a toll booth. He said to him: follow me. And he got up and followed him. And it came to pass that, while they were sitting at table in the man's house, some publicans and sinners were also there with Ieshu and his disciples, for many of them were following him. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples: "Why does your master eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners? When Ieshu heard them, he said to them: it is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick: I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.
