La Gnose, Sonnet
Par Jules Doinel
(La Gnose (The Gnosis), In Hymnarium Gnosticum, Jules Doinel, 1901.)
Historical Note: This sonnet was written shortly after Doinel returned into the fold of the Gnostic Church. He was no longer patriarch but was made Bishop of Alet and Mirepoix.
The Gnosis, a sonnet dedicated to Synésius, gnostic patriarch, to Sophronius, bishop of Béziers, to Thédote, gnostic deacon.
In the firmament the Gnosis lights itself up like beacon (lamp).
The Spirit, of Matter has interrupted the sleep.
Love and the Ideal sound their fanfare.
An aigrette flames (shines) on the helmet of the sun.
The Demiuge revolts in vain and is scared away.
In vain the dark archons fight the awakening.
Gnosis in the firmament lights itself up like a beacon (lamp).
An aigrette flames on the helmet of the sun.
The Christos is king, the Christos is God, the Christos rises.
The Ocean of faith surges and beats the retreat.
The splendour of the Pleroma reddens the horizon.
And the sacred Aeons, carried on Science,
Plane in the infinite, signing (chanting) the Renaissance;
And celestial clarity (light) fills our reason.
Ŧ Jules, Bishop of Alet and Mirepoix.
